Good News for SNAP Recipients, Extra Benefits in August

Hi,If you’re one of the millions of Americans receiving SNAP benefits, also known as food stamps, you’re in for a treat this August! The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the largest anti-hunger program in the US, providing monthly benefits to buy groceries. And, this summer, you’ll get some extra cash to help cover food costs while the kids are on school break.

Who’s Eligible for payment?

To get this extra $120 payment, you must have school-age children. This benefit is designed to help families cover grocery costs during summer when kids are out of school. Over 30 million children are expected to receive financial assistance through this program.

How to Get Your Extra SNAP Benefits

If you’re already enrolled in SNAP or other government programs like WIC, TANF, or FDPIR, you’ll automatically be enrolled in SUN Bucks. Families with children in the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program can also participate if they meet income requirements.

What Can You Buy with Extra SNAP Benefits

Once you receive your extra SNAP benefit payment, you can use it to buy food at most supermarkets, farmers’ markets, and online at places like Amazon and Walmart. Just remember, you can’t use it to buy hot food, pet food, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, or medications. You have 122 days to use the extra cash, so don’t forget!

Which States are Participating?

Several states will provide additional SNAP benefit payments in August, including California, Connecticut, Illinois, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. However, not all states participate, so be sure to check if your state is eligible.
